Orchid Extract Sheet Mask*

One of the many things I love about sheet masks is they are so portable, and easy to use.  I kind of thought that all sheet masks were created equal until I came across this one.

It has all the things I already know and love going for it:
  • Portable i.e. great to take away on holiday.
  • Mess free
  • Easy to use :
    • Open
    • Unfold,
    • Apply and relax
However, this one has that bit more going for it!  Along with essence of Orchid to make your skin super soft, hydrated and feeling good after use, it also treats your under chin area.  Plus ! it has a great way of staying in place - ear loops!

How to use

Once you have unfolded it you place it on your face and it has the usual holes for eyes, nose and mouth but there are two holes where your ears are so you stretch and loop the mask over them - nice and secure.
Chin part -  again secure with holes in the mask over your ears.  All of this might sound complicated? but it really isn't.
The benefit of all of this is the mask stays very close to your skin and in place so you can walk around and happily scare a few people!πŸ‘»

I left my mask on for over the recommended time (10-20 mins) as once it was on it was so secure I could potter about, take some scary selfies and then I  did my nails.

After use my skin felt wonderfully hydrated and clean, a little of the product still left on my face which I massage in.

I really think the inclusion of the under chin part of the sheet mask is genius and especially for someone like me who is a little older and starting to notice some slackening in this area.  Plus whilst I do love to have a good lie down, it useful that you know you can get up without the mask ending up on the floor!!

You can purchase this along with some other great products i.e.  Collagen Gloves at Beauty Belle.

Eyebrows - the new fashion accessory

Eyebrows ...

Eyebrows, are very much in at the moment, there are so many new products on the market I thought as a beauty blogger I was being left behind.  For years I have used an eyebrow pencil which has always suited me fine.  However I felt maybe I was being a bit old fashioned in my approach so took a tiny step forward and then a large step back!... read on.

A  is for a Tiny Step

First off I tried Brow Lift by Charlotte Tilbury.  This is a lovely product, as we know Charlotte Tilbury is not a budget range but I had high hopes.  Beautifully designed and packaged, the shade (Grace K) was perfect and the pencil has an eyebrow brush at one end and a twist up triangular shaped pencil at the other, which makes it easy to use and draw a hair like stroke.  In the middle of the pencil is a highlighter a very pretty gold colour - too much for me during the day but perfect in the evening.  As you can see I still have it and the highlighter is still going but the pencil part ran out rapidly - within 8 weeks it was gone :(

B is for Budget Brand

I next went ahead and purchased another fancy pencil.  Whilst choosing I was erring towards a eye brow palette but on the whole I am pretty happy with my eyebrows,  they have always been full even when they weren't in fashion I never over plucked them.  I have a few areas that need a bit of defining but thats all, so I purchased another pencil Maybelline Brow Satin in medium brown.  Again happy with the colour this one has a twist up pencil at one end and a powder at the other.... however this one lasted less than a month!?  Not sure why, I don't think I was being heavy handed as I said earlier I am just trying to fill in a few gaps.

C is for Crikey thats old!

So after spending a fair amount of money on a couple of pencils (about £30, majority of which was the CT one), I have gone back to what I know, and what I have been using for about oh... 30 years.  Not that the pencil in the picture above is 30 years old of course, however it is about 3 years old and still going.  So it doesn't look very pretty, but you can see exactly where you are with this one - i.e. keep on sharpening it until it is no more.  This pencil works fine for me so I am going to stick this this one, they are plenty of other things I can spend my money on.

How do you define your brows, or maybe you don't need to.  I would love to know what you are using, so please drop me a comment below.

Thanks, BB πŸ˜‰πŸ’‹

You Beauty Box - 2 for 1 !!

You Beauty Boxes Review - Feb & March

Not a buy one get one free I'm afraid! but a 2 in 1 post of the You Beauty Boxes I have recently received.
As you know I subscribe to You Beauty Box as a Silver Member (£8.95 per month).  To be honest some months are better than others, (January was such a disappointment I didn't even write a post 😞) however one of the things I still really like about the You Boxes opposed to some of the others (i.e. Birchbox - been there, done that) is you get to choose a couple of the products yourself. Personally I always go first for skincare, then hair, make up last.
Pleased to report that after a blip in January the boxes are back on track - see below

February

I haven't had a chance to try all of the goodies yet,  however I have started my Argan Moroccan Rose Super Repair Hand & Nail Cream which is rather lovely.  I love anything pink plus it makes sense that a hand cream should include ingredients to benefit your nails.  I am all about the nails when I apply my cream, I massage it into my cuticles as I feel this helps my nails to grow.  Delicately fragranced, not overpowering this is a full size product, available online and in Waitrose if you are in the UK.
The Feb box also included another couple of really interesting products Oskia Renaissance Mask and Sukin Super Greens Detoxifying Clay Mask.

The Oskia one has a butter like texture and in the pot it is a soft salmon pink colour, but as you 'butter' your face it turns white.  Instructions say leave on for 10 - 20 mins, it started to feel quite sticky but I left it on for a good 20 mins, maybe more.  You then add a little water and massage it around a bit, it will go white again lastly rinse off with water.  It was very pleasant to use, I have read about how wonderful the smell is but to be honest, to me, it didn't really smell of anything much.  There is enough in this sample size for a good 5 or so treatments, it is packed with exfoliating ingredients so should pep up your skin, certainly left mine looking fresher.
Sukin are Australia's best selling natural skin care brand, certified as 100% Carbon Neutral 🌳 Cruelty Free 🐰 and Vegan 🍏  This is a full size product, called Super Greens, this detoxifying mask includes kale, spirulina and parsley.  I painted this on using my FAB Tropic Skincare spatula, and let it dry which took about 30 mins.  At the time I had a few breakouts on my chin :( so I gave them a dose of Super Greens.  Good size going to last for ages, as long as I screw the lid on tight. Buy in the UK @ Look Fantastic

The February Box also included:
  • Jimmy Choo L'Eau sample
  • Foaming Micellar Cleansing Water

March

I have pounced on the Skinade Travel sample as this is all about my one true love collagen.  Look out for a full review of Skinade as I am just about to start drinking this every day, will post after a month so expect a thorough account.
The Hero Project - Vit C-30 Ultra Brightening Serum.  Vitamin C and Serums seem to like each other. This one is from a new brand to me and only a small sample size but containing 30% ethylated L-Ascorbic Acid (vitamin C to you and me) it is a powerful weapon.  In the bottle the serum looks orange but is clear when you draw it up with the dropper.  You only need a few drops and apply it before you moisturise, it smelt orangeish but also smelt fizzy if fizz has a smell?  My skin seemed to like it, however I think this sample size is too small, I doubt it would last much more than a month, the surface layer of your skin renews it self every two to four weeks, will I be using it for long enough to notice any difference?  Good to know Vegan friendly 🐰

The March box also included:
  • bagsy 35% off gift card (no minimum spend)
  • Katherine Daniels Essential Micellar Face & Eye make up remover (micellar water in two consecutive boxes)
  • RENU Lip & Eye Active Lift
Are you a fan of beauty boxes? Which have you tried and what do you think of them - please leave a comment,  I would love to know.

Colway Natural Face & Body Serum*

Operation Neck!

Ever since I started doing the cleanse, tone and moisturise routine I have known that you need to include your neck in your skincare routine.

In my 20's and 30's I was a bit hit and miss with the regime, but in my 40's which are running out soon (eek!) I have really stepped up my game.

Serum is a good addition to your regime, the molecules in serum are smaller than those in a moisturiser so they deposit their ingredients deeper into the skin.

This serum from Colway is part of their Natural range and aimed at the face and body - so in my case the face and neck, and whilst I'm at it my dΓ©colletage and shoulders too!

This serum contains  eight natural antioxidants.  Antioxidants are needed to help your skin fend of the attack of those pesky free radicals which attack the skin, slow it down, make it look tired and worn, all the things you really don't want.  They also interfere with collagen which just isn't on!  Luckily there is some help you can give your skin and you only need to apply a small amount of this gold coloured serum to help your skin defend itself!

I have been smoothing this on using long upward strokes, its easily absorbed, after I apply my neck cream, and yes of course an SPF to my neck.  My neck is enjoying the extra attention, it feels nice and smooth.

Colway Natural Face and Body Serum + Moisturiser + SPF = Operation Neck is good to go!

Tropic Skincare - you're hired!

Tropic Skincare

You may have heard of this brand before - the founder Susan Ma appeared on the Apprentice in 2011 but didn't make it to the final stage.  Still we all make mistakes, Lord Sugar realised his and after the event helped her to launch Tropic Skincare.

Personally I hadn't heard of Tropic Skincare before so when my local Tropic Skincare Ambassador, Sharon invited me to an evening of beauty and bliss - I sent my RSVP straight away.

Having a great hostess at a party is a must and Sharon made us all feel more than welcome.  She had set up a wonderful display (see below), the packaging is beautiful and ... tropical 🍍🌴!
Visually stunning products make you eager to try,  Sharon even managed to find cotton wool buds that matched the branding!

We had a great evening trying and smelling all of the gorgeous products, there was too much choice really, however I plumped for three of the face masks
  • Clear Skin (Green)
  • Face Lift (Yellow)
  • Deep Hydration (Purple)
  • ... and the Mask Spatula!

You probably already know I am a big lover of a good mask but usually it's a Sheet Mask.  One of the reasons for this is they are so easy and mess free to apply.  With a regular mask I tend to get it all over the place and don't like it when they get under and around my nails. At the beauty salon they always seem to 'paint' your mask on, so when I realised what the spatula was for it all started to make sense!

OK so why did I buy three masks?  Tropic suggest you contour with the masks - i.e. to get the best result for your skin you should contour them to your face.  For me - I applied (painted using the spatula) the Clear Skin (green) to my breakout areas which are my chin and nose.  I painted Face Lift (yellow) to my jaw line and neck, and then finished with a coat of Deep Hydration (purple) everywhere else.  This was turning into serious fun! I did look a bit like an extra from Braveheart but it makes sense,  if you have combination skin like me (normal to dry, but I still get spots and starting to lose a bit of firmness along my jaw line and neck).

Instructions state to leave the masks on for 10-20 mins.  Clear Skin and Face Lift are both the type of masks that dry on the skin (and the type that usually get stuck under my nails - no more thanks to the Mask Spatula).  Deep Hydration is a little different,  it is a cream (a soft raspberry colour) this one sinks into the skin depending on how dehydrated you are.  Would be a good one to use by itself over night too.

After the time was up I jumped into the shower to rinse the masks off - WOW! as the products rinsed off I was surrounded by the beautiful tropical aromas.  Post shower I  patted my skin dry and applied my usual routine of serum and moisturiser, although its worth noting I didn't need very much moisturiser as my skin was feeling super hydrated and soft.

Fragrance

Reading a blog is hopefully fun and informative, but it can't let you smell how incredibly lush these masks smelt.  Honestly they are gorgeous and it's no surprise really as these masks are packed full of 100% naturally derived ingredients and freshly handmade in the Great Britain - click here to read Tropic's beliefs & values

Clear Skin is zesty and fresh thanks to Lime, while Face Lift has Elderflower, and Deep Hydration has Blackcurrant leaf.  Tropic list all of their ingredients and their products are verified by The Vegan Society and Cruelty Free International 🐰

I love all of the masks - my favourite one for the smell is Clear Skin, my skin drank in Deep Hydration and I am sure my neck enjoyed being pampered too with Face Lift.  The Mask Spatula is a tool of genius and has made me think differently about 'traditional' face masks - no more mucky fingers:)

You can purchase Tropic products either at a Tropic Skincare Party or online - click here for the lovely Sharon's Tropic Skincare Website.

I will be writing a review shortly about - Tropic Skincare Good Skin Day, so make sure you follow me :)
